Deanery Parishes Marked the Feast of Corpus Christi with Pilgrimage, Procession and Prayer
The Solemnity of Corpus Christi was celebrated with deep reverence and joy across our deanery this June, as parish communities honoured the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist through prayer, procession, and pilgrimage.
On Thursday 19 June 2025, pilgrims from the Parish of St George and St Wilfrid and the Parish of Christ the King and St Joachim joined a pilgrimage to the Carpet of Flowers at Arundel Cathedral. Forty-three pilgrims from across the Eastbourne Hub, accompanied by Fr Rory and Fr Charles, attended Mass, the Eucharistic procession, and Benediction amid the stunning floral display. As part of the Jubilee Year of Hope, pilgrims passed through the Cathedral’s Diocesan Holy Door, with the opportunity to receive a Plenary Indulgence under the usual conditions. On Saturday 21st June, a joyful Eucharistic Procession took place from St Joachim Church to Christ the King in Eastbourne, bringing the Blessed Sacrament through the streets and uniting the parish’s two churches. First Communion children, dressed in their special attire, scattered rose petals along the route, symbolizing innocence and devotion. Many parishioners from across Eastbourne took part, concluding with Adoration, Benediction, and the Vigil Mass at Christ the King.
Meanwhile, processions also took place after Mass at The Parish of the Good Shepherd, St Leonards, and at St Mary Star of the Sea Parish, Hastings. These celebrations brought together parishioners in prayerful witness to the Eucharist, enriching the spiritual life of each community.
